Raleigh new home builders/developers Lanny Caldwell and David Schmidt have been raising the standards of quality homes and livable neighborhoods in the local region since 1987. As both developers and builders, they give ExperienceOne Homes a unique approach that starts with a focus on attracting and keeping customers, rather than solely maximizing profits. With a great deal of time and energy spent planning their communities of single-family detached homes and townhomes, Caldwell and Schmidt strive to offer the most desirable locations, the broadest variety of designs, the most comprehensive amenities and an unsurpassed level of value.

With more than 50 years of combined homebuilding experience between them, and over 3,000 homes built in the Triangle, these new home builders share a commitment to excellence that has earned them the title "Builder of the Year" four times, along with more design and marketing awards than any other local builder. In 1985 they founded Sunstar Homes, which became the largest privately owned building company in the Triangle. Sunstar merged with a group of other builders in 1996 to form a publicly traded company.

When the new firm's emphasis on quarterly earnings and stockholders' profits interfered with their personal philosophy of putting the customer first, Caldwell and Schmidt chose to break away and start an uncompromising new business to better serve their customers.
