Local Sites & Events of Interest
The Apex Festival Commission plans and organizes Apex Peak Fest, an annual event that draws thousands of people to downtown Apex. The event, which is held in early May, features a wide array of arts and crafts, a variety of entertainment, numerous activities for children and adults, delicious food and exciting local and regional stage acts.
The Apex Downtown Historic District features many buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Apex train depot, built between 1867 and 1873, is designated as a Wake County landmark. The depot location marked the highest point on the old Chatham Railroad. Constructed in the 1870s, the Maynard-Pearson House serves as the home of the Apex Historical Society and hosts educational tours.
Downtown Apex is also home to a number of charming shops and restaurants. The Rusty Bucket preserves the genuine atmosphere of an old-time country store with a welcoming motto that greets visitors as they enter the door: "Enter as Strangers, Leave as Friends."
For shopping of a more contemporary nature, you’ll find a wealth of retail and entertainment options at Apex’s Beaver Creek Crossing and Beaver Creek Commons shopping centers.
The Halle Cultural Arts Center was originally built as the Apex Town Hall in 1912. Today it features a 135 seat theatre, three galleries and two studio classrooms and presents an ongoing schedule of art exhibitions, performances and movie screenings.
The NC Division of Parks and Recreation operates nine recreation areas at the nearby Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. Enjoy fishing, camping and outdoor recreation on nearly 14,000 acres of water. This beautiful natural preserve awaits you just minutes away from The Villages of Apex.
